The University of Indianapolis says a swastika was found on the wall of a dorm room Monday night, as new students moved in. The school does not yet know the source of the act.

School officials, in a letter posted online, say they’re working with the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council on an appropriate response.

"Our approach to this incident was to immediately protect the students and ensure that they were provided alternate accommodations, start an in-depth investigation to review the thousands of individuals from outside organizations that rented our housing facilities over the summer, and to determine who else had access to the room," the letter states.

David Sklar, assistant director of the local Jewish Community Relations Council, says the two students moving into the room were Jewish-Israeli. But until they learn more from the investigation, Sklar says they can’t be sure if it was targeted or not.

“But you know, either way, with the environment in which we’re in, with some of the things that we’ve seen happen around the country recently, it’s immensely important that when these types of things happen people report them to their proper authorities, bring them to the attention of folks that need to know about these things,” Sklar says.

University officials say both students moving into the room were relocated to guarantee their safety.

The school also says professionals in its counseling center are available to meet with anyone affected by the incident.

Swastikas Found Spray-Painted on Side of Little Haiti Food Truck Owned by Jews

Police are investigating after two swastikas were found spray-painted on the side of a food truck parked in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.

The hateful symbol could be seen over the logo of the Burgers Bruh food truck, parked along Northeast 54th Street between Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast Second Avenue, Friday.

Before Alex Ovadia and Robert Marks could serve a single customer, they found a swastika carved into the truck, Thursday, and called City of Miami Police.

“It started with this,” Marks said while pointing at the carved symbol. “It almost goes down right to the paint. Then, we woke up again today to two swastikas. It hurts.”

The next day, the owners said they came out to the food truck to discover the symbol spray-painted on the logo.

“I’m a Jewish person. Proud,” Ovadia said. “This is kind of unheard of that in this day and age, we have such atrocities going on in a place where we’re trying to clean up the neighborhood.”

The two said they feel threatened and that they are being watched, even as they build their business.

Ovadia and Marks’ said their plans go beyond the food truck. They said the lot they parked their truck at will have a movie screen and would serve as like an entertainment destination.

“[It would] be catered more towards the locals instead of always trying to push them out,” Marks said.

The owners said they have been at the truck day and night for weeks.

“Just test the menu, you know? Spending late hours in here,” Marks said. “Obviously you can’t let that steer you out of the neighborhood because then that would make this have worked, you know? They would win.”

“You decided to put a Nazi symbol,” Ovadia said. “Well, why don’t you come to me? You’re a very squeamish little person. You’re a tiny little person. Come at me instead of coming at my truck.”

7News cameras captured officers on the scene next to the food truck.

Ovadia and Marks said they will be back in business at the location very soon.

If you have any information on who may have drawn the symbol, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
