Flyers containing antisemitic propaganda were found in a St. George neighborhood, following a pattern of reports across the country in recent weeks. The flyers repeat tropes about Jews being responsible for the war in Ukraine and abortion. The white supremacist group Goyim Defense League (GDL) is suspected to be behind the latest harassment campaign that targets more than a dozen states.
“It’s horrible. I don’t want it here, but I know it’s here,” said Raquel Cox, a St. George resident who found two flyers in her yard. “It needs to be addressed, they need to be held accountable, if not just have attention put on them and not the kind that they want.”
The flyers are inside Ziploc bags with rice in them. Similar bags have been found in neighborhood across the country, including California, Florida, New York, and Minnesota.
FBI Salt Lake City is aware of this situation and in close coordination with local partners. We ask our communities to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity. No further information is available at this time.
The flyers are nothing new for the Jewish community.
“I remember when I was in college, someone was passing out flyers about how Jews were responsible for 9/11,” said Rabbi Sam Spector of the Congregation Kol Ami in Salt Lake City. “Unfortunately some of the groups spreading this misinformation are hate groups and are actually putting peoples’ lives in danger,” Spector said.
