According to an email from Superintendent Peter Light’s office, a swastika was found outlined in the snow on the outdoor basketball court at the high school. According to the email, the graffiti was found Thursday.
“We are saddened and frustrated at this affront to our values and are committed to doing all that we can to foster an inclusive culture where all members of our community feel safe and valued in our schools.,” Light wrote.
In a letter sent to families in the district, High School Principal Larry Dorey, Dorey wrote: “At approximately 3:00 PM today two teachers walking by the basketball court noticed that a swastika had been carved into the snow by the apparent means of an individual shuffling their feet through the snow. This incident is an affront to our values as a school and community.”
According to Dorey’s email, the incident was documented and the high school has been in communication with district officials and the Acton Police Department.
“What happened today will not be tolerated by our community. As a community, we will come together to support each other and fight against such acts of hate,” Dorey wrote.
Acton’s Deputy Chief Jim Cogan had this to say when asked about the police response to the incident.
“The Acton Police are actively investigating this incident along with the schools to identify a suspect.”
