Brookline Police are asking for help to find a man suspected of a hate crime. Police released surveillance video Monday showing a man walking up to the Chabad Center of Brookline at 496 Harvard St. He wrote antisemitic graffiti on the building in Russian, police said.

A symbol was drawn above the words which closely resembled a swastika, police said. The man approached the area from Coolidge Corner and left toward Commonwealth Avenue.

A $1000 reward for information leading to the person’s arrest.

"This antisemitic act represents a direct threat to the Jewish community and is a reminder that hate never rests, even in a pandemic,” said Robert Trestan, ADL New England regional director.

The incident comes as the Jewish community is preparing to celebrate Passover under new restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. Anyone with information is asked to call the Brookline Police Department at 617-730-2222.
