A historic Jewish cemetery in Hamina, Finland revealed a desolate sight - some of the tombstones had been cut down; others painted white swastikas. The Cemetery is no longer used; it was established in 1740 and is fairly small.
The town’s Mayor, Mariehamn, is outraged; he heard about the incident for the first time when he was contacted by the Helsinki Jewish community head.
Local authorities are investigating the vandalism as a hate crime.
