Vile graffiti “God Bless Amerikkka”, a play the white supremacist group KKK, was found at Shaker Heights High School on the morning of May 31, the day after protests in downtown Cleveland were held following the death of George Floyd.

Floyd died May 25 when former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee on Floyd’s throat for nearly nine minutes. Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Superintendent David Glasner released a statement regarding the incident in an email to the Cleveland Jewish News.

“The Shaker Heights City School District was made aware this morning that our High School had been vandalized with graffiti sometime Saturday night," he stated. "Our staff worked much of the day Sunday to remove the graffiti from the exterior doors and columns of the High School, and I thank them for their prompt and efficient work. We are currently investigating the incident. Meanwhile, we view this act in the larger context of the anger and frustration that currently exists in our country. In that sense, we believe that this can be a teachable moment in our continued community-wide discussion around issues of race, equity and social justice.”
