Vandalism at Illinois Synagogue Being Investigated as Hate Crime
Police in north suburban Skokie, a large Jewish, pro-Israel population, are investigating a report of vandalism at a synagogue, the Persian Hebrew Congregation, as a hate crime. Law enforcement said someone smashed a window Sunday afternoon and another individual left a flag and a pro-Palestine sign outside.
Surveillance video shows a man with a flag then someone runs with pole to break the window and leave behind a Palestine sign.
Steve Hoffman, the former president of the synagogue, said they have now hired security to protect their house of worship. "I hope that people who want to protest have peaceful protests and that it won't devolve into vandalism," Hoffman said.
No one was at the synagogue at the time and no one was injured.
