A South Bay man arrested on suspicion of possession of assault weapons and other illegal arsenal was arraigned Tuesday in San Jose. He also had bullets inscribed with the phrase "Cop Killer," a racist manifesto with threats against the Black, Hispanic and Jewish populations and a written plan to attack a sporting goods store, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

Wesley Charles Martines, a 32-year-old Los Gatos resident, was remanded on $300,000 bail on felony charges. Martines was accused of prowling outside a business in Campbell in the area of East Sunny Oaks Avenue last Friday and looking into cars and a storage shed, the district attorney's office said.

Upon stopping Martines' truck, police found two AR-style rifles, a Glock 9 mm handgun and ammunition, along with body armor, heroin, methamphetamine and a pipe bomb with pellets but no explosive materials inside, according to the district attorney's office.

Police also found a journal containing the racist writings and a plan to dress up as an employee at a sporting goods store and tie everybody up, the district attorney's office said. The name of the sporting goods store was not specified.

The district's attorney's office granted the Campbell Police a search warrant and a gun violence restraining order to seize Martines' weapons.

"Once again, law enforcement saved lives before the blood and tears flowed," District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a news release. "All of us have a role in stopping the next mass shooting, suicide, or domestic violence murder. Please call law enforcement if you know that someone is armed and dangerous."
