Three suspects have been arrested in Delaware County for allegedly shouting antisemetic slurs at a man after stealing his fur hat.

Authorities say the incident happened Saturday morning on Main Street in the village of Fleischmanns. A man reported he was walking when someone got out of a pickup truck and stole his shtreimel, a hat worn by some Jewish men.

According to New York State Police, the suspect returned to the vehicle, which was occupied by two other men. They allegedly yelled anti-Semitic slurs before driving away.

Investigators say 25-year-old Korey Bush of Ashland, 24-year-old Wesley Eignor Jr. of Denver, New York, and 21-year-old Johan Diamond of Grand Gorge have been arrested.

The three men have been charged with grand larceny as a hate crime. They were being held in Delaware County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Police say the shtreimel has been recovered.

Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement on the incident. He said: "It is unacceptable for a Jewish man walking from a synagogue on Sabbath to be singled out, have his shtreimel ripped from his head and be verbally attacked because of his religion."
