Zohran Kwame Mamdani is a community organizer based in New York City pushing the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS). In 2020, Mamdani ran for the New York State Assembly representing District 36, which covers parts of Queens. He ran as a Democratic Socialist and with the endorsement of previous "Antisemitic of the Week" Linda Sarsour. He beat the incumbent in the Democratic primary by less than 500 votes and went on to win the election in both 2020 and 2022, running unopposed.
Zohran Mamdani proudly claims credit for starting a Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter in college and has a long history of supporting the BDS movement. For example:
In May 2021, he tweeted: "We pay our elected officials with our tax $$$ to represent us but they go on paid-for trips to Israel. We have three words for them #BDS. Every elected must be pressured to stand with Palestinians, oppose Apartheid & assert that the fight for dignity knows no exception."
In 2021, like Linda Sarsour, Mamdani attempted to assert his BDS views into the Black Lives Matter movement. He often tweets, "We are paving a new path, one where we stand against injustice & apartheid whether in Ferguson or Palestine” or "#BLM or #BDS."
In 2022, Mamdani attacked Pro-Israel Representative Ritchie Torres tweeting, "#BDS is a righteous movement for liberation, one supported by queer people & Jewish people & socialists & abolitionists & all those who know another world is possible."
In August 2022, Mamdani went on a Twitter rant claiming American politicians are essentially bought and paid for by the Israeli government. He also condemned the Iron Dome Defense Missile System, which is credited for saving thousands of Jewish and Arab lives alike.
This month, Zohran Mamdani introduced legislation that pushes pro-BDS legislation known as "Not on Our Dime." The bill would penalize charities that aid various communities within Israel. A collective of 25 assembly membes, led by Daniel Rosenthal and Nily Rozic, issued a shared message emphasizing the risks posed by Mamdani's proposed legislation and assert that this BDS tactic was introduced to create division.
Denying the Jewish peoples' right to self-determination, claiming the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor, and expressing the Jewish nation "buys" foreign politicians for influence are all examples of antisemitism according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, something Zohran Kwame Mamdani is grossly guilty of.
