The Jewish human rights group B’nai Brith voiced its outrage on Wednesday after several large swastikas were carved into the snow at an outdoor skating rink in Montreal.

The organization said in a press release that a Jewish community member spotted at least four swastikas on the snow-covered rink Tuesday evening at Danyluk Park in Town of Mount Royal.

“It is alarming to see the skating rink, such a basic symbol of Canadian identity and winter fun which attracts children and families, being defiled by symbols of hatred,” said Michael Mostyn, B’nai Brith Canada’s chief executive officer. “This repulsive act of anti-Semitism should be condemned by all, and we hope that the perpetrators are identified and held to account.”

B’nai Brith said it reported the incident to the Montreal police’s hate crimes unit. The organization also notified Town of Mount Royal Mayor Peter Malouf and said he immediately responded by launching an investigation.
