Tucson Police Arrest Man for Synagogue Vandalism

An arrest has been made in connection to last weekend's vandalism at a local synagogue.

In a statement shared Wednesday, Tucson Police Department shared that 37-year-old Dustin Wilkerson was charged with aggravated criminal damage that reportedly resulted in multiple broken windows and shattered glass at Kol Ami Synagogue over the weekend.

According to TPD, Wilkerson was named a suspect in the trial after detectives reviewed surveillance video that was recorded near the synagogue, formerly known as Temple Emanu-El. The department said he is believed to have thrown rocks at the place of worship, which caused the vandalism damage.

On Tuesday, TPD shared that its detectives were working on figuring out the motive behind the incident. The detectives were also determining whether the vandalism was a possible hate crime, stating there was no evidence found that showed that the crimes were bias motivated as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Wilkerson was located in jail, booked on an unrelated charge of assaulting an officer.
